Viñales on top in opening Le Mans run

The opening free practice at the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France saw Isaac Viñales lead the way from Efren Vazquez and Alex Marquez at the head of the Moto3™ timesheet.

A late fast lap from Viñales (Calvo Team) of 1’43.998 gave him the top spot by 0.124s from Vazquez (SAXOPRINT RTG) who suffered a crash in the final seconds of the session. Marquez (Estrella Galicia 0,0) trailed his pace setting compatriot by 0.393s.

Marquez’ teammate Alex Rins (Estrella Galicia 0,0) was fourth, with Romano Fenati (SKY Racing Team VR46) completing the top five.

Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM Ajo), Niccolo Antonelli (Junior Team GO&FUN), Alessandro Tonucci (CIP Mahindra), Niklas Ajo (Avant Tecno Husqvarna Ajo) and Hafiq Azmi (SIC-Ajo KTM) rounded out the top ten.

There was also a crash for Scott Deroue (RW Racing GP) just over ten minutes into FP1 but he was not hurt and soon got up to walk away.
