Dovizioso on front row and happy with pace

Ducati Team’s Andrea Dovizioso qualified on the front row of the grid at the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France and is confident about his race pace.

The Italian rider notched the Italian factory’s first front row grid result of 2014 with a 1’32.755 lap to take third behind pole man Marc Marquez and rookie Pol Espargaro. Dovizioso trailed Marquez by 0.7s but the World Champion was on record pace around the 4.2km circuit.

Dovizioso was pleased with the grid position, but was more satisfied with his overall preparations and pace before Sunday’s fifth race of the year.

Summing up Saturday’s action he stated, “I’m so happy about the first row but also about our lap time. 1’32.7 is really fast and we got a good feeling before qualifying. Our pace with the hard tyres is quite fast and is close to the fastest riders.”

“It confirms we have improved and specifically improved the steering of the bike. It will be very difficult as many riders have a similar pace, but this is our best ever condition for a race. We have a good chance to fight in this race and here will be a bit better than Jerez. We can be close to the fight for the podium. We’re sill not quite on the same level as the other riders but we are getting closer.”
