Fenati elation at home round triumph

Sunday’s enthralling Moto3™ race brought a home triumph for Romano Fenati (SKY Racing Team VR46) at Mugello, with the Italian now firmly back in the title race.

As Fenati celebrated his win at the Gran Premio d'Italia TIM, his family, friends and fans at the circuit were joined in congratulating him by nine-time World Champion Valentino Rossi – who helped to create the new SKY Racing Team VR46 set-up for 2014.

Since joining the team Fenati has seen his form take an upward turn with three wins already this season, though the Mugello victory was the sweetest yet for the young Italian.

Taking maximum points after last lap crash between championship leader Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM Ajo), Alex Marquez (Estrella Galicia 0,0) and Enea Bastianini (Junior Team Go&FUN Moto3) means the standings deficit from Fenati to Miller is now just five points.

“It was important to get a good result today, the victory here at Mugello is something really fantastic,” said an elated Fenati after the race. “To hear our national anthem in Italy is a unique feeling. My family and all my friends from Ascoli came to support me and now I'm here celebrating with them, so I'm really happy. It was a great thrill to see Valentino kneel in front of me, but in truth I should really kneel in front of him.”

“This is the most beautiful race in the World Championship. I really enjoyed this race. We fought a lot with the other riders, they were very fast. The last lap is always crazy and close. I’m very happy because this is my first victory in Mugello. I want to thank my crew and my team especially. I really enjoyed it.”
