Solid efforts by Pramac Racing pair

It was a successful weekend for the Pramac Racing team at their home round, with Andrea Iannone and Yonny Hernandez both registering top ten results at Mugello, after Iannone had briefly led the MotoGP™ race.

Iannone made the headlines on Saturday by securing second place on the grid, a great improvement on his previous best qualifying result in the MotoGP class which was eighth on the grid at Catalunya last year and in Argentina earlier this year.

It is also the best qualifying result by a Ducati rider since Casey Stoner was on pole in Valencia in 2010, and is the best ever qualifying result for a satellite Ducati rider.

Early in Sunday’s race Iannone made a brilliant start, taking the fight to the top riders and immediately gaining first position with the hole shot at the first corner. He held the lead in the early stages before Jorge Lorenzo took over at the front, but Iannone was then able to stay in the lead group for several laps.

In the second half of the race, he fought hard to maintain fourth position, facing up to his opponents with great determination and eventually finishing in seventh place.

Iannone commented, “I'm happy to have done the first laps in the top positions in front of my fans. When the race ended my team told me that the crowd were cheering all my overtaking, and this makes me proud. The passion of the crowd here always gives you a boost. We had a good race but I could not keep up with the pace of the Honda and Yamaha riders. Unfortunately I struggled a bit over the last seven laps because of a worn out tyre, but I worked hard to give it my best.”

Meanwhile, on the Energy T.I . Pramac Racing side of the box Hernandez reflected on his first top ten finish of 2014, saying, “I am happy I came home in tenth position, this is a great result for me, the best since I’ve been with the team. We worked hard to develop the bike for this race and in the end we got a good result. The best possible with this bike.”
