Exciting race and strong result for Abraham

Exciting race and strong result for Abraham

Cardion AB Motoracing’s Karel Abraham had an exciting race at Mugello and secured his best result since 2012 on the very last lap of the race.

Abraham added another four points as came home 12th, winning out in a last lap battle with fellow Honda RCV1000R-equipped riders Hiroshi Aoyama and Scott Redding.

The Czech rider therefore won the unofficial battle of the best rider on the ‘Open’ Honda and took his points tally to more than double that of his 2013 total. Abraham only completed six races last year due to crashes and ongoing injury problems, so he and his team are delighted to have turned the corner this season.

Abraham had his left shoulder rebuilt in October last year after a huge highside crash at Indianapolis and faced months of rehab and grueling test sessions over the winter. He was still unable to complete full test days as the preseason drew to a close but patience is finally paying off and he is now able to squeeze the potential from his new Honda package.

Reflecting on his Mugello result Abraham said, “Well, this is exactly the result we dreamed about. It’s not only about the final position, I enjoyed the race, I fought against the other Open Honda riders and all of this is very important for me as well as for the team.”

“I’m a little bit disappointed that we couldn’t fight against the Ducati riders. We can beat them on the corners, but we don’t have enough power on the straights. I rode almost the whole race behind Michele Pirro and couldn’t overtake him. However I beat Scott Redding who was riding on the same bike as me.”
