Folger’s upward trajectory continues with another rostrum result

Jonas Folger secured his second podium in three races with a strong performance in Sunday’s Moto2™ race at Mugello.

The German intermediate class rookie started fourth but took the lead of the race on the first corner and kept that place until seven laps from the end, when he was overtaken by Luis Salom and Tito Rabat, at that same first corner. The AGR Team rider nonetheless kept his focus to bring his Kalex machine home in third.

Folger led the morning Warm Up and with his team he made some set-up changes that allowed him to ride more comfortably, which then saw him start the race on the offensive. However, as the race progressed, lack of grip meant he could not corner perfectly and suffered with some front end chatter.

He commented, “I’m very happy with this podium in Mugello. I started well and I tried to set a strong pace in the first part of the race. Then in the end I wasn’t able to keep it because I had some trouble with my front tyre. We thought about using hard tyres in the morning, but after talking to Dunlop and testing in the Warm Up, we kept what we had. We didn’t have problems with the rear, so now we will focus on the front. There are still a lot of races left to improve the set-up and my riding style.”

Folger is one of several Moto2™ and Moto3™ riders to be staying at Mugello for a test on Tuesday, where he will try some different options with Dunlop, as well as working on his WP suspension and Kalex chassis settings.
