Second consecutive podium for Viñales

Second consecutive podium for Viñales

Isaac Viñales produced an excellent ride at Mugello to come from 12th on the grid to take second place at the finish line, missing out on victory by just +0.01s.

The Spanish rider produced a great comeback and when he reached the leading group fought valiantly for victory until the last corner, going into the last lap in seventh place and ultimately missing out by the tiniest of fractions to the victorious Romano Fenati.

Viñales was classified ahead of Alex Rins by virtue of a faster best lap as they crossed the line at exactly the same. The result was the closest ever top three finish in the lightweight class.

After the race, the Calvo Team rider commented, "We tried to fight for the win but we missed just missed out. We talked about it with the team that whoever was second or third at the last corner would win the race. They are fine margins, but everything went according to plan. It’s important to be on the podium again and the race was great. I like these battles it’s much better than running a race alone. We now have two podiums in a row, so at home in Barcelona we have to keep this form going.”

“It was a very hard race because all the riders were in the same group, there was a lot of overtaking on the straight. On the last lap I pushed hard and got second, I made it past Rins by a tight margin and Fenati won it, but I’m very happy.”
