Official Marquez biography launched in Barcelona

Official Marquez biography launched in Barcelona

The official biography of the youngest ever MotoGP™ World Champion, Marc Marquez, was launched in Barcelona on Wednesday.

The predecessor of Marquez as the youngest ever premier class title winner, Freddie Spencer, was in attendance at the launch presentation, having contributed a special foreword to the book, which has been written by the highly respected Spanish sports journalist Emilio Perez de Rozas.

Speaking at the presentation Marquez commented, "Honestly at the beginning I didn’t want to have a book as I thought it was too early, but when I spoke with Emilio Perez de Rozas and Emilio Alzamora, they convinced me that 2013 was a really important year. Then I thought, ‘it’s true’, so we did the book, with the intention of explaining to my fans this special year for me. They’ve done a really good job. Also thanks to Freddie Spencer because he contributed to the book and he has said some very nice things!"

Spencer commented, "When Marc broke my race win record and qualifying record in Austin last year it inspired to think about how things fall into place. The book is really interesting because it talks about how he went about winning the World Championship and becoming the youngest World Champion, so I just wanted to be part of it, because I think it’s special."

Author Perez de Rozas explained the philosophy behind the creation of the book, saying, "It is a testimony to what happened last year and the book tells the story of the 2013 season in terms of words and images, but the idea was to document the opinions and the different visions which the key figures in the paddock have about Marc as a rider and as a person."

On collaborating with Marquez for several months, having previously documented the rider’s successful journey through the smaller categories, De Rozas added, "With Marc it’s been a marvelous experience, because we know each other, so we knew it would go well and that he would be able to help us, even though his personal time is already very busy! He gave his version of what was an amazing season last year and he gave us pointers on what he liked or didn’t like as we went along writing the book. Actually, he even thought of the title of the book!"

Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta has also witnessed Marquez’ journey from 125 rookie in 2008 to record breaking MotoGP™ World Champion, and he stated, "Marc is an exceptional rider and he has brought something fresh to the sport. In racing and in life he is a great example to others. He is very good and that’s because the people around him have helped to make him so good. He is a talented rider in an era of very talented riders."
