Espargaro leads the way at home track

The first day of the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya saw NGM Forward Racing rider Aleix Espargaro on top of the timesheets with a superb 1’41.672 lap.

It was a positive start for the Forward team with Espargaro finishing the morning session with the fastest time, a position that he maintained in the combined classification despite not improving in FP2.

At his home track Espargaro continued working on electronics in FP2 to improve his feeling with the bike. With ground temperatures rising above 55°C the track became more slippery and electronics more critical.

The rider commented, “I’m happy with this morning’s result. We were able to do a fast lap and also the pace was quite good. We suffered more in the afternoon with the hot temperatures as the track was very slippery and the traction control was not helping.”

“We made some changes on the front and we tested some different electronics settings, but we couldn’t improve our lap times and tomorrow we will keep on working on the electronics.”
