Bradl secures fourth in Mediterranean heat

LCR Honda’s Stefan Bradl achieved fourth on the grid for the GP Monster Energy de Catalunya race and was pleased with his Saturday performance.

Bradl proved there were no lasting effects of his two big high sides at Mugello, qualifying as the top satellite bike on the grid for Sunday’s race.

The former Moto2™ World Champion put in a 1’41.220 to initially knock Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) down to fourth. Unfortunately for Bradl, Lorenzo responded, as did Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) pushing him back to fourth.

Bradl’s time was just 0.235s from pole and provided a confidence boost for the LCR rider who has suffered two DNFs so far this season.

“These two days have been very positive for us and we are quite happy about this second row. We demonstrated that our pace is pretty good in all sessions and we are not far from the front guys. Before the qualifying session we made some little adjustments on the suspensions that worked pretty good and the tyre situation is clear now,” said Bradl.

He continued, “In the qualifying the yellow flags were displayed for (Marc) Marquez and (Alvaro) Bautista from their crashes, which disturbed my performance a bit. Pedrosa even blocked me in the first corner during my second flying lap but anyway it’s a good feeling to be towards the front again, especially after Mugello.”
