Iannone has eventful day in TT practice

Two run-offs on Thursday followed by the fifth fastest FP2 time at the Iveco Daily TT Assen told the story of Andrea Iannone’s day in the Netherlands.

The Italian Pramac Racing rider was down in 11th in the first free practice as he lost his line at one stage and ran off track at turn 9, but he improved by more than 1.6s in the afternoon to move up into the top five – in spite of another off track excursion.

At the venue where he qualified 13th and finished the race 13th last year in his rookie MotoGP™ season and took Moto2™ victory from pole in 2010, Iannone will aim for a strong qualifying result on Friday.

Thursday’s fastest Ducati rider at Assen commented, “I am very happy with this result today. I think it will be very difficult get this kind of performance for the race but I will try to do my best. I have a good feeling with my bike at this track and that has been a little bit of a surprise for me, because last year it was very difficult for me.”

“We’ve improved a lot at this circuit and the lap time proves that. I push a lot to improve everything and tomorrow it will be important to do that. It’s difficult here because there are a lot of changes of direction and my bike is not so good for this.”
