Top Ducati finish for impressive Iannone

Andrea Iannone (Pramac Racing) was able to overcome a difficult start to the eni Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschalnd race and secure fifth, his best result of the season.

Rain just prior to the start of the German Grand Prix saw 14 riders start from pit lane as they made a last minute switch to their dry bikes. It was elbows out at the start as the riders fought for position in pitlane, Iannone able to secure a ‘front row’ spot.

Turns 12 and 13 remained quite wet during the opening stages of the race but Iannone was able to push on regardless. The Italian made quick work of the majority of the field but was unable to maintain the pace of Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP).

Fifth place is the best result of the Italian rider so far this season. Factory riders Andrea Dovizioso and Cal Crutchlow finished in eighth and tenth - ten seconds behind the Pramac rider.

Afterwards, Iannone commented, “I am very glad I got my best result in MotoGP. At the start of the race the track conditions were not very good because when we started turn 12 was very wet and with the slick tyre it was difficult to deal with. I pushed as much as possible at the beginning to not be too far from Lorenzo and Valentino, this strategy paid us off with this excellent result. I'm happy with my first half of the season. I could have picked up a few more points in the races where I crashed, but since last year I’ve improved a lot.”
