Masbou revels in return to podium

Sunday’s Moto3™ German Grand Prix saw Alexis Masbou pick up his second podium finish in the World Championship, with the first having come at the same Sachsenring circuit two years earlier.

In 2012, Masbou finished second in the German race. On this occasion, the Frenchman came home third following a race-long battle at the front of the field with eventual winner Jack Miller and second place finisher Brad Binder, as well as Alex Marquez and Danny Kent who would finish just behind in fourth and fifth spots.

“We had a great race,” the Ongetta-Rivacold Honda rider commented with a smile. “We were all riding very fast and it was difficult to pass – so we always had to be on the limit to pass a rider. At the end, it was very difficult to stay on the bike and play with the rear, as the bike was sliding a lot! I was faster than everybody at Turn 4 and tried to use this to finish in the best possible position.

“I was a little bit too far behind to be able to fight Jack on the last corner but, okay, I have finished on the podium, this is good for us and finally we are in this position. We have waited for this for a long time.”

Masbou’s result means that he heads into the mid-season break as one of only two Moto3™ riders (the other being Efren Vazquez) to have scored points at every race.
