Dovizioso repeats second place grid position

The Saturday action at the bwin Grand Prix České republiky saw Ducati Team’s Andrea Dovizioso take second position on the grid for the second race in a row.

The experienced Italian was able to repeat his front row performance from Indianapolis, providing positives signs that he and Ducati are making progress.

Dovizioso’s time was just 0.129s slower than Marc Marquez’s (Repsol Honda) pole position time of 1’55.585s. Fellow Ducati rider, Andrea Ianonne (Pramac Racing), was a further 0.012s behind Dovizioso to also slot into the front row.

Dovizioso was able to set his lap time with less of a slip stream than in Indianapolis. He will be looking to sharpen his pace over race distance and close the gap to the podium on Sunday.

“Yes, I am really happy. Here my feeling was better in Indy. I made a good lap time, I was really strong and my lap time was not from riding behind Marquez. For the race it will be interesting, we have been very strong all weekend here,” he said.

Dovizioso continued, “The drop in Indy was too big, I pushed very hard and Indy is very hard on the tyres and the rider. Here we are in a better situation, we’d like to stay at the front but our aim is to reduce the gap. Our gap at Indy was 20 seconds, that’s too big.”
