A 26th premier class win for Pedrosa

Repsol Honda’s Dani Pedrosa ended teammate Marc Marquez’s run of wins at the bwin Grand Prix České republiky by taking his 26th premier class victory and continuing Honda’s winning form.

Pedrosa made a lightning start from fifth on the grid, settling in behind Andrea Iannone (Pramac Racing) and Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) as the Italian pair led in the early stages.

Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) made an early break, reminiscent of his past wins. Pedrosa set consistent laps and overtook Lorenzo on the sixth lap and extended his lead to over a second and a half.

The closing stages saw Lorenzo make a spirited charge, reducing the gap to just 0.410s at the end of the race.

Pedrosa becomes the first rider other than his teammate to win a race this season.

This result also reduces the gap to Marquez by 12 points, now with 77 splitting the two riders. Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) is now 13 points behind Pedrosa.

“I didn’t plan the race in the way it went. Jorge was very strong in the first laps so I had to change my plan and push to catch him. I was able to have a good rhythm and manage the gap. We had some problem with grip and corner exit after the first laps. I am very happy to have won this race! This year it has been a tough road to victory, but today everybody in the team is very happy,” said the race winner.

He continued, “Seeing their smiling faces makes me happy as well, because you always try to get the best results but don't always manage to do so. This year we have an amazing rival in Marc, who has had great performances at every round so far. Maybe today wasn't his best day, but I think that we also worked very well this weekend; bringing home the win for the team feels fantastic.”
