Double points finish for Gresini pair

Double points finish for Gresini pair

Finishing respectively tenth and 11th at the bwin Grand Prix České republiky saw Alvaro Bautista and Scott Redding in the points at round 11.

Bautista had struggled for rear grip across the whole weekend, suffering a crash in FP4. The Spaniard made a strong start from the fifth row and was up to tenth after seven laps.

Tenth would be where Bautista would finish, as no other riders were within reaching distance of the Gresini rider. Teammate Scott Redding also had a difficult start to the weekend, crashing in FP4 and Warm Up.

The English rookie regained his confidence in the race and fought hard throughout the whole contest, claiming 11th position. Much of Redding’s race was spent catching Michele Pirro (Ducati Team), the Moto2™ graduate overtaking the Ducati rider in the closing stages.

Redding was again the leading Honda RCV1000R man, claiming his tenth point scoring finish from eleven starts.

“During the race I was able to recover some positions, but I’m not happy with the feeling I had with the bike: I struggled with the same problems we had during the whole weekend, I can’t actually feel the contact between the rear wheel and the asphalt and in these conditions it was difficult to ride,” said Bautista.

He continued, “Unfortunately at the moment we can no longer find the good feeling of the first races of the season. We need to work hard in the next few races to find something that can allow us to get more grip."

Redding commented, “Overall I’m happy with the race, even though it was difficult. I had a small crash also this morning in the Warm Up and I didn’t have confidence with the cold temperatures, but in the race my feeling started to come back, even if it took some laps. In the final stages I decided to make a move on Pirro, because I knew that I could stay in front of him. As I said, I’m happy with the result, but it would have been nice to stay closer to the other riders in front of me.”
