Head of second row for Aleix Espargaro

Head of second row for Aleix Espargaro

The Hertz British Grand Prix saw Aleix Espargaro once again qualify as the top Open class rider in fourth on his Forward Yamaha.

A late charge put the elder Espargaro brother ahead of the likes of Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) and Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) on row two.

Free Practice 4 saw him down in tenth position with a 2’03.486s. But the Spanish rider improved by over two seconds in Q2, lapping at 2’01.448s to lead the second row. Movistar Yamaha MotoGP’s Jorge Lorenzo was 0.273s ahead on the factory Yamaha machine in third place.

After a tough start to the weekend this solid position has renewed Espargaro’s confidence for the race.

He explained, “I’m really happy with my best lap time. Silverstone is a tricky track and the cold temperatures make more complicated to find the right set up with the bike. In the practices we struggled with the front, but in the qualifying I made a very good lap that gives me extra confidence for tomorrow’s race.”

“Regarding the tyre choice, which is really crucial here, I think I will race with the soft compound, even if I usually prefer the hard option. It’s cold and I prefer a safer solution,” he added.
