Marquez delighted to win again

The Hertz British Grand Prix saw Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez battle hard with Jorge Lorenzo, the Honda rider taking victory.

After a difficult Brno race Marquez was determined to bounce back and return to the rostrum. The reigning World Champion made a solid start from pole position, following Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) for the early stages.

Marquez spent the first half of the race catching the Majorcan, gaining the advantage on lap 14. Two mistakes, including a large one at Stowe corner allowed Lorenzo to retake the lead and a repeat of 2013 battle between the pair began to unfold.

The fight was fierce with Marquez eventually gaining the upper hand after some slight contact, causing Lorenzo to sit up mid corner. Just 0.732s was the eventual margin that Marquez claimed victory by.

This marks Marquez’s 11th win this season, making him the first rider to do so since Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) in 2005. The Repsol Honda rider now leads the world championship by 89 points over teammate Pedrosa.

He explained, “Honestly today I didn’t expect Jorge to be like that! He was so strong from the beginning. The pace was very high, I did the same rhythm as in FP4. He was pushing a lot at the start and I was trying to save the tyres a little.”

“In the second half of the race my pace was slightly better and I tried to overtake him but made a mistake. I start to think about last year and I said ‘ok we’ll make a small gap.’ It was very tough on the last few laps. Luckily it was enough. A great battle and great to return to victory.”
