Redding's Honda RC213V options for 2015

Michael Bartholemy, Team Principal of the Marc VDS Racing Team and the personal manager of Scott Redding, says a Honda RC213V ride for the Englishman is still a distinct possibility for next year.

As the runner-up in the Moto2™ class in 2013 Redding moved up to the premier class for the current campaign and is riding well in MotoGP™. On Sunday Redding was the top British finisher at his home Grand Prix and he has finished as the highest classified Open Honda RCV1000R rider on several occasions in his rookie season.

Redding currently sits 12th in the World Championship standings, five points behind his Honda RC213V-equipped GO&FUN Honda Gresini colleague Alvaro Bautista and Redding’s manager Bartholemy states the he is the subject of ongoing negotiations for a competitive 2015 MotoGP™ ride.

However, there is still some work to be done to finalise Redding’s ride for next season as Bartholemy explains, "On 31st July we got confirmation about the factory bike from Honda and Gresini and that put us in a more quiet situation as this is what we wanted to have, this is why we signed the contract with them and how we signed with them, so we were quite happy. Then a few days later Fausto (Gresini) spoke to us and told us he had some financial problems for next year and that he doesn’t know if he can afford the bike or not, so from this moment the problem starts a little bit."

"In this moment, HRC, (Shuhei) Nakamoto and (Livio) Suppo they guarantee us that Scott will be on the factory Honda for next year, but they need to see where this bike can run. I believe they are talking to Lucio (Lucio Cecchinello, LCR Honda MotoGP) and to Aspar and they have made an offer to us. So we have had an offer on the table since a little over a week for the bike."

Regarding the possible outcome of negotiations and whether the Marc VDS Racing Team could move into MotoGP, to be reunited with Redding and to fund his ride on the RC213V, Bartholemy expanded, "I don’t know what the situation is with Lucio and with Aspar, I have no idea. After I got this possibility from HRC I went to see Marc (Marc van der Straten, Marc VDS Racing Team) and Marc wants to help Scott, but he doesn’t want to cover it 100%."

"I fully understand this. The help that Marc has given to us in a short time, for over the next three years with a project like this, never, ever would anyone else give us help like this, so I have to take my hat off to him again. But, definitely we do not have everything to make it happen for next year."

Meanwhile, Redding has other teams assessing his situation and also attempting to secure his services according to Bartholemy. He added, "Aside from this we have two factories who are very interested in having Scott on their bike for the next two seasons. We have another factory who are interested in Scott for 2016 but they would have to park him in another team for next year. So even though it is all happening late he is still very much in demand and many people want to have him. Now it is just a case of seeing what Honda can come up with at the moment, to also be free of the Gresini contract, so this will be the work ahead now."
