Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup riders prepare for Sepang test

At the venue where they successfully came through the pre-selection event last year in order to become part of the inaugural Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup, the competition’s 22-strong rider line-up will head back to the Sepang International Circuit for a two-day test on 4th-5th September.

With four races of the 2014 Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup already under their belts in Qatar, Indonesia and a double header in China, the riders will head to the track where three of the four remaining Cup races will take place.

The riders have a break from competition in July and August and will return to the controls of their Honda NSF250R Moto3™ machines at Sepang to prepare for the second half of the season, under the watchful eye of Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup Director Alberto Puig.

The opening rounds of the year have seen the Japanese participants demonstrate their strength, with the top six places in the championship held by riders from Japan. Indeed,

Japanese rider Yuta Date is top of the standings at the half way stage, having taken victory in the opening round at Qatar and in race 2 of the visit to Zhuhai in China.

Date enjoys a 23-point lead at the top of the classification having been on the podium at every race so far and he is the rider that the rest of the field will be measuring themselves against when they reconvene for their important Sepang test.

Date’s compatriots Kaito Toba and Ayumu Sasaki will look to push him hard in the final four races, with Toba also having taken two victories to date and with Sasaki having already notched three podiums.

The Sepang test will be the ideal opportunity for them and their fellow Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup riders to finalise their preparations for races 5 and 6 in Malaysia on 20-21st September.
