Beirer on KTM’s 2015 Moto3™ plans

Beirer on KTM’s 2015 Moto3™ plans

KTM’s Head of Motorsport, Pit Beirer, spoke to motogp.com at the Gran Premio TIM di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini to outline the manufacturer’s plans for the forthcoming Moto3™ season.

Jack Miller of the Red Bull KTM Ajo team currently leads the Moto3 World Championship standings and Beirer intends to field a strong rider line-up next year throughout the group of teams the Austrian factory will run machinery for.

He commented, “Nothing is 100% confirmed yet, but if you ask me about riders directly I would say our wish list would be a combination of (Karel) Hanika, (Brad) Binder and (Miguel) Oliveira. That would be a very strong team, for the Red Bull KTM Ajo team. But of course in Moto3 it was important not just to look at one specific team. In total we decided to go for 12 bikes. It is very important to have strong partners like the Calvo Team, the VR46 team and Gresini Racing, to keep strong names linked to KTM and to go on with a strong package of teams and riders, not just one team.”

Meanwhile, clarifying the plans for the Husqvarna brand in the lightweight class in 2015, Beirer added, “The two Husqvarna bikes will be part of the 12 in total. We have very tight and tough rules about participation in Moto3. With our competitors like Mahindra and Honda we are all pushing like crazy and it’s a very difficult situation, to keep it clean within the regulations and not to create a big mess, or not to create a fight with our competitors. So we said we will keep with the same type of bikes, so there will be two Husqvarna bikes and they will be with the Calvo Team.”
