Aleix Espargaro sets fifth fastest Friday time

As the MotoGP™ action resumed at Motorland Aragon with the first two free practice sessions of the weekend, NGM Forward Racing Team’s Aleix Espargaro was fifth quickest overall.

The Spaniard set the second fastest time (1’49.185) during an FP1 run characterized by cold temperatures (15°C ambient, 17°C track).

Espargaro further improved his lap times in the afternoon as warmer temperatures made the track conditions more favourable. With a 1’48.938 lap, just 0.653s from P1, Espargaro registered the fifth fastest time overall and he will keep on working tomorrow to improve his bike set up in preparation for Sunday’s race.

“I like Aragon a lot and it’s a kind of home GP for me,” Espargaro commented. “This morning was quite cold but I had a good feeling especially in the second half of the session. In the afternoon, with warmer temperatures, we struggled a bit as we lacked some grip on the front. Anyway I’m confident that we can improve and we will continue to work on the bike set up with the hard tyres for the race.”

Alex de Angelis was 18th in the morning session, then improved his lap time in the afternoon with a 1’50.408 to go 15th. The 30 year-old rider is still recovering from a recent scaphoid fracture.

He commented, “All in all it was a positive day as I was able improve my lap times in the afternoon session compared to FP1. I had to be a bit more careful as I had more pain in the second part of the session, but in general I’m optimistic. Tomorrow we will continue to work on the traction control and on the bike set up to make the bike turn better.”
