Top Yamaha qualifying result for Pol Espargaro

Top Yamaha qualifying result for Pol Espargaro

Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Pol Esgarpargo narrowly missed a front row slot at the Gran Premio Movistar de Aragon on Saturday.

With the factory Movistar Yamaha MotoGP team struggling with grip issues at Aragon, Pol Espargaro was able to impress aboard his satellite M1 as he secured fourth position for Sunday’s race. Espargaro was the first ever winner at Aragon, winning the 2010 125cc race.

A lap of 1’47.865s had the younger of the Espargaro brothers provisionally on the front row until Andrea Iannone (Pramac Racing) took advantage of his softer tyre to go just 0.136s ahead of Espargaro.

Valentino Rossi was the next closest Yamaha in sixth, some 0.4s down on the Spanish rider.

This is Espargaro’s best qualifying result since the French GP. Le Mans saw him take his first MotoGP™ front row, starting second on the grid.

Espargaro reflected, “I’ve felt good all weekend. But I don’t think today was my best day. I wasn’t strong on the first run and we made a little change. I was very nervous so I was pushing too much. I stayed calm on the second run and followed Pedrosa. The temperature changes a lot here so we’ll have to see what happens in the race.”

“We have some problems and differences between us and the Factory guys and we need to do some more tests. We had a slight problem so we have to check if that was the real problem or if it was a one off. The Hondas can use the hard rear and ride really fast, but for us the hard tyre doesn’t work,” he said.
