Third practice in Japan led by rapid Marquez despite early problem

Despite an early technical problem for Marc Marquez he was the quickest rider on track in MotoGP™ FP3 at the Motul Grand Prix of Japan and is now followed by Andrea Dovizioso and Valentino Rossi on the combined timesheet.

Repsol Honda’s Marquez had a doubt about a new engine on his bike 1 early in FP3 and pulled over at trackside, but was soon back out on bike 2, setting a new fastest ever lap of Motegi (1’44.940) as he gathered momentum on his #MM93TitleChance weekend.

Ducati Team’s Dovizioso is 0.2s down on Marquez in second on the overall times with his best Friday lap, as he was unable to improve on Saturday morning. Movistar Yamaha MotoGP’s Valentino Rossi was second in the session and is now third overall, trailing Marquez by 0.227s.

Pol Espargaro (Monster Yamaha Tech3) had a late crash in the session, falling into the gravel at turn 3 but was unhurt and ended up fourth, just ahead of Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP).

Andrea Iannone (Pramac Racing), Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech3), Cal Crutchlow (Ducati Team), Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team) and Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda MotoGP) all safely made it through to Q2.

The likes of Alvaro Bautista (GO&FUN Honda Gresini), Aleix Espargaro (NGM Forward Racing) and Yonny Hernandez (Energy T.I. Pramac Racing) will try their luck later in Q1.
