Rabat confident ahead of crucial weekend

Marc VDS Racing Team rider Tito Rabat this weekend gets his first chance to clinch the 2014 Moto2™ World title at Phillip Island.

Rabat arrives in Australia 38 points ahead of his teammate Mika Kallio and a victory for the Spaniard on Sunday combined with fourth place or worse for the Finn would secure the title for the standings leader.

On his frame of mind approaching the weekend he commented, “It’s a good sensation. Of course here it will be very difficult but we will try 100%. The most important thing to do is make this race like the last ones we have done. I will try to have good practices, to improve my bike, to do my best and to focus on myself.”

Regarding the atmosphere in his team’s box, he added, “Of course Mika is my rival number one, on the track. Outside the track I do my job. Of course he is not my best friend but I have a lot of respect for him. We fight on the track, when we are not on the track I don’t see him much, but when I do see him it is like normal.”

Asked whether he might consider riding with caution this weekend in order to avoid crashing, Rabat replied, “I don’t want to think about this! All through the year things have gone well. If I need to be aggressive I will be aggressive, because it’s my style. I don’t want to be scared about crashing, it is racing anything can happen.”
