Difficult weekend for Bradl at Phillip Island

Difficult weekend for Bradl at Phillip Island

Having qualified in 11th place for the Tissot Australian Grand Prix Stefan Bradl crashed out of the race when battling for a top five result.

The Phillip Island contest was an incident packed race with nine riders failing to finish, including LCR Honda MotoGP’s Bradl who crashed out with eight laps to go. Bradl collieded with the rear of Aleix Espargaro’s bike, with the Honda rider falling unhurt, only for Espargaro to be forced to stop off shortly afterwards due to the damage to his bike.

After the race Bradl was given a penalty point by Race Direction for his part in the collision.

Bradl explained, “All weekend we struggled a lot with the tyres and we couldn’t find our standard pace. Also starting from the 11th spot was not easy but finally in the race I found my pace. Then Iannone took out Pedrosa and I dropped back because I had to go wide. After that I pushed to come back and I was in the group with Dovi, Pol, Aleix and Bradley and I could match their pace.”

“Unfortunately I made a mistake when I wanted to pass the guy in front of me in the hairpin and I could not brake hard enough and my front tyre hit Aleix’s bike. I crashed out and Aleix had to retire. I am very sorry for him and his crew. We have to keep going now and do our maximum in Sepang next week.”
