Federal Oil and Gresini Racing have renewed their partnership for the 2015 season, extending a working relationship which started back in 2012. Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 will line up next season with a Kalex machine being ridden by Xavier Simeon.
The 25 year-old Belgian rider has been given the chance to continue a project which showed potential during 2014, with an exciting start to the season.
Simeon fought for victory in Austin - crashing out of the podium hunt at the end of the penultimate lap having earlier led the race - and placed second in the following round in Argentina. Therefore, his target for the 2015 season is to find the consistency to fight at the top at every race.
Team Manager Fausto Gresini said, “We are delighted to have won the trust of Federal Oil, a very important partner with whom we are going to take part in our fourth season in the Moto2 World Championship. We will face a difficult challenge in an extremely hard-fought championship, but we feel we can cope with all the requirements to be successful. Xavier Simeon will be with us again. We strongly believe in the potential of this rider who this year, after only three races, in Argentina, gave us a wonderful second place finish. A result which was followed by several placements into the top ten in a Championship where the competition is always very tight.”
“We have repeatedly shown a high level of competitiveness, although in some races we didn’t get what we deserved. In 2015, therefore, the aim is to find the necessary consistency of performance to be able to fight at the top throughout the whole season.”
Simeon added, “I’m really happy to continue my adventure in the Moto2 World Championship with Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2, a highly professional team with which I immediately felt at ease. It is the best team I’ve raced with during my whole career, without a doubt. This agreement allows us to give continuity to a great project. The 2014 campaign started very well, with a second place finish in the Grand Prix of Argentina, after which we encountered more difficulties than expected, also because of bad luck.”
“Our target for the 2015 season is to return to fight at the top and I think all the conditions are there to succeed. Staying ahead is a goal within our reach if we can make a good winter preparation. I will be aboard a Kalex machine, a bike that I got to know in the past, with good sensations. I’m grateful to the Federal Oil and Fausto Gresini for giving me another chance despite a difficult season. I’m very motivated and convinced that we will return to show what’s our true level.”
