L’Equipe: How Spain is on top in MotoGP™

French sports newspaper L’Equipe has carried a feature on the rise of Spain in MotoGP™ over the last decade and how the Spanish riders have taken over from their rivals from the likes of Australia, Italy and the United States at the top in recent seasons.

L’Equipe highlight the fact that since 2003 Spain has achieved 18 of 36 possible Riders World titles across the three classes of Grand Prix racing, of which nine have come in the last four seasons, from 12 possible in total. In 2013 and 2014 the titles in all three classes went to Spanish riders.

Extending the analysis to the last 20 years, from 1994-2014, Spain accumulated 21 titles (five in MotoGP, eight in the intermediate class and eight in the lightweight class), three more than Italy and a wide margin on front of Australia (seven), Japan (six), France (three) United States (one).
