RW Racing GP has signed Livio Loi for 2015, with the 17 year-old Belgian looking forward to riding the official factory Honda NSF250RW.
RW Racing GP only has one bike on the grid in 2015, meaning that it could contract only one rider. This meant the Dutch Grand Prix team’s owner Roelof Waninge and team manager Jarno Janssen had to select just one rider for the forthcoming season.
“We are very happy with the faith Honda has given us, based on the good relationship and results we have had in the past,” team owner Roelof Waninge comments.
“The Honda definitely is the best bike at this moment in the Moto3™ championship and we are honoured we are given the confidence to have one. Unfortunately this also meant we had to make decisions concerning a rider. We would like to thank Scott Deroue for his effort over the past two years. We will keep an eye on him,” Waninge adds.
Scott Deroue and his manager Rob Filart knew it was going to be difficult to continue for another year. “We would like to thank Roelof Waninge, Jarno Janssen and the rest of the team,” Filart says. “Without them Scott would not have had the chance to ride Grand Prix. Although it is a hard nut to crack at this moment we fully understand the choices that have been made. We wish the team and Livio all the best.”
Loi understands the disappointment for Deroue, after losing his own ride in 2014. “I never threw in the towel and always kept the faith I would get another chance,” the Belgian teenager says. “I have continued training and riding motorbikes to keep fit and be ready to step in at any given moment.”
“I’m delighted with this new chance, which I consider very special. I’m really honoured with the faith Honda and RW Racing GP are giving me. I’m looking forward to working with a team that speaks the same language and ride a Honda factory machine. I wish it was February already.”
RW Racing GP is pleased to have another great talent from the Low Countries on board. “Livio has showed what he is capable of,” team manager Janssen says. “He is a point scoring rider, with a fourth place in Argentina as the highlight and this is what we are looking for. Together with Honda we believe there is much more in Livio than he has been able to show so far.”
