Monza Rally Show 2014: Rossi going for fourth win

Monza Rally Show 2014: Rossi going for fourth win

While this week sees Sepang and Jerez play host to the last World Championship testing of the year, all attention will soon turn to Italy as Thursday marks the start of proceedings for the 2014 edition of the Monza Rally Show.

The off-season is not just about testing. Although December and January may bring a form relative hibernation for two-wheeled motorsport, there is still plenty of time for fun with a number of historical events taking place. Among these is the Monza Rally Show, established in 1978 and having taken on the name it now carries back in 2002.

Making a permanent presence over recent years has been nine-time motorcycle Grand Prix World Championship Valentino Rossi – and that is no different in 2014. Again paired up with co-driver Carlo Cassina, Rossi is set to enjoy four wheels as he looks to win the event in back-to-back fashion for the second time (having previously taken the spoils in 2006 and 2007, as well as last year). ‘The Doctor’ will be at the wheel of a now familiar Ford WRC car.

Absent will be Moto3™ star Romano Fenati after breaking his collarbone in a training accident. However, accompanying Rossi in the 35th edition of the event will be a star-studded cast of Ken Block, Tony Cairoli, Robert Kubica, Kurt Bush, Gigi Galli and Paolo Andreucci.

Scrutineering will begin on Thursday. Friday morning will see the recce on which the drivers and co-drivers get to grips with the course and prepare pace notes. The event itself will begin on Friday afternoon, with the winner being crowned on Sunday.
