Marc Marquez led the opening day at the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix in dominant fashion, while teammate Dani Pedrosa posted consistent times.

Track and weather conditions improved throughout the day at Indianapolis and quick laps were set almost immediately in Free Practice 2. Marquez led initially before Andrea Iannone (Pramac Racing), Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) and Yonny Hernandez (Energy T.I. Pramac) all set quick laps. The current MotoGP World Champion responded with a 1’32.882s, the only rider to go below the 1’33 mark.

Pedrosa spent much of FP2 experimenting with tyre combinations as he and his team adjusted to the new track surface. The Spaniard was able to finish. A 1’33.493s put Pedrosa 0.611s behind his teammate.

Marquez commented, “It was not so bad, we came back from the holidays and had a slow start with the rain. I’m happy because in the afternoon we could do a lot more work. The track grip changes each time we go out so we have to change the set up a lot. Hopefully we get more dry track time tomorrow.”

Pedrosa added, “We were able to progress a lot in the afternoon and tried out all the tyres, but we still need to work to see what the pace will be like and find the limits of the track. Today the track condition improved the more laps we all put in, because the asphalt cleaned up and gave us much more grip. On Saturday we will work on finding the limits and getting a good tyre combination for Sunday’s race.”
