Pedrosa unable to repeat Brno heroics

2014 MGP Silverstone Pedrosa
Monday, 1 September 2014

The only rider other than Marc Marquez to have a won a MotoGP™ race this season, Dani Pedrosa missed out on the podium at the Hertz British Grand Prix – beaten to the rostrum by third placed Valentino Rossi by just 0.175s.

Winner last time out in the Czech Republic, Pedrosa set off from fifth place on the grid aiming to win back-to-back races for the first time since Jerez and Le Mans last year.

However, as Jorge Lorenzo and eventual race winner Marc Marquez got away to contest the lead, Pedrosa was caught up in a battle for third place with Italians Rossi and Andrea Dovizioso.

Pedrosa finished third at Silverstone in 2012 and 2013 and it looked as though he might be able to repeat the result for a third consecutive season as he overtook Dovizioso for fourth and pressured Rossi on the final lap, only to ultimately miss out by under two tenths of a second.

So no victory and no podium this time for the Repsol Honda rider who remains second in the 2014 World Championship standings, now 10 points in front of Rossi.

Silverstone remains therefore, one of just four circuits on the current schedule, along with Losail, Austin and Argentina, where Pedrosa has not had a Grand Prix win in any class.

He commented, “The race wasn't easy. I had a bad start and on the opening laps I lost a little ground on the frontrunners, although to be honest I didn't have the same pace as the leaders afterwards either. However, we fought with Valentino and Andrea and in the end we gained a place on the final lap. It hasn't been our best weekend, but we will try to be back up at the front again at the next Grand Prix.”
