Maverick Viñales was a star performer in Sunday’s Moto2™ race at Losail, as the reigning Moto3™ World Champion raced to an inspiring fourth place.

En route to his top five result, the Spaniard broke the lap record and rose through the order by no less than ten positions. It was certainly a positive way to start in the intermediate category of the World Championship, racing for Pons HP 40.

“We have worked very hard this weekend,” explained Viñales, who finished ten positions in front of team-mate Luis Salom. “I am very happy and want to thank the team because in the Warm-Up they were able to give me a bike that really allowed me to fight during the race.

“The poor start to the race was a shame and it prevented me from fighting for the win, but I am very happy with Qatar because I really enjoyed this race. I had so much fun, all of the riders here in Moto2™ are very fast and I really enjoyed this Grand Prix.”

Viñales now moves on to the second event of 2014 in Austin, Texas, where in 2013 he was narrowly beaten to the Moto3™ race victory by compatriot Alex Rins.
