Catalunya to host post-Grand Prix test

Sunday, 15 June 2014

Monday will see the MotoGP™ field remain at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit for a day of testing, as the teams continue their work at the conclusion of the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya.

Randy de Puniet of the Suzuki Test Team will join the full time riders on track, as the Japanese factory continue to develop their MotoGP project ahead of a planned return next year. Suzuki are keen to test alongside the current field to gauge their progress, with De Puniet having undertaken extensive tests in both Japan and Australia with the bike.

Ducati are also eager to test with Cal Crutchlow, Andrea Dovizioso, Andrea Iannone (Pramac Racing) and test rider Michele Pirro working on upgrades to the Desmosedici. Indeed Ducati and Suzuki are scheduled to continue testing on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) plans to use the test to improve his performance in qualifying which has been a weak point, with his colleague Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) also focusing on corner entry and braking improvements. Yamaha are set to move on later in the week to privately test at MotorLand Aragon.

Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa will also be in attendance as they aim to ensure the RC213V remains as competitive as ever.

MotoGP rookies Pol Espargaro (Monster Yamaha Tech 3), Scott Redding (GO&FUN Gresini) and Broc Parkes (PBM) will take advantage of the test to explore set-up options they are unable to test during a race weekend.

Colin Edwards and Aleix Espargaro (NGM Forward Racing) each have a new chassis to test on their Open bikes. Electronics have also been a key point for both Forward riders with Edwards specifically aiming to get more consistent performance from his package.

Moto2™ rider Dominique Aegerter is also expected to get a first taste of MotoGP™ as he is set to test the Avintia Racing machine.

Aegerter will stay on for an intermediate class test with his Technomag carXpert team on Tuesday and he will be joined on track by the likes of Marc VDS Racing Team pair Tito Rabat and Mika Kallio, in addition to Paginas Amarillas HP 40 rookies Luis Salom and Maverick Viñales.

Familiar names such as Thomas Luthi (Interwetten Paddock Moto2), Nico Terol (Mapfre Aspar Team Moto2), Sam Lowes (Speed Up), Takaaki Nakagami (IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia), Jordi Torres (Mapfre Aspar Team Moto2) and Jonas Folger (AGR Team) will also be present.
