Gresini runs the rule over season so far

Thursday, 3 July 2014

MotoGP™ Team Manager Fausto Gresini has given motogp.com his thoughts on the progress of his team in the premier class this season.

The former 125 World Champion and GO&FUN Honda Gresini team manager has experienced the ups and downs of racing for many years and he provided an assessment of the progress of Alvaro Bautista and rookie Scott Redding.

What is your analysis of the season so far for your two riders in MotoGP?

“Bautista’s results have been quite mixed with some very nice races and some which were not so good. On some occasions we were not lucky. Alvaro could have already been on the podium in the first race in Qatar, but he crashed on the final lap. He has a factory bike, but with certain technical elements which have advantages and disadvantages.”

“With Scott (Redding), he had a fantastic first race and has since had a championship line with the expectations we had for a rookie, with results more limited given the performance of his bike. The Production Racer is a good bike, but not as competitive as the factory machine.

What do you think of the RCV1000R overall? And what do you expect from Honda next year?

“It is a very nice bike, like a factory but with a less powerful engine - especially in acceleration - giving it less overall performance than the factory machines. I hope that next year Honda reacts as they have said and I'm sure it will certainly be more competitive. Something exceptional will arrive from Japan, as they always have done in the past.”

Shuhei Nakamoto (HRC Executive Vice President) recently spoke about a pneumatic valve engine which Redding could try before the end of the 2014 season, can you tell us anything about that?

“Yes, we also announced the use of the engine, which is like the factory one. It will be a big advantage in terms of performance for us. It is hard to say now if we can get it before the end of the season, but we hope that this possibility will come about as soon as possible.”
