Marc VDS want ‘proper’ MotoGP™ deal

Marc VDS want ‘proper’ MotoGP™ deal
Tuesday, 17 June 2014

Marc VDS Racing Team are making no secret of the fact that they wish to break into the premier class of MotoGP™ for the 2015 season, but the Belgian outfit stresses that it would only do this should the circumstances be right.

Having narrowly missed out on last year’s intermediate class crown with Scott Redding, Marc VDS now heads the Riders’ Championship with Tito Rabat while team-mate Mika Kallio sits second overall. Over the first seven races of the campaign, the team has been beaten on only one occasion.

“It is normal that we think about it and normal that people ask us if we want to go to MotoGP™,” says Michael Bartholemy, Team Manager of Marc VDS Racing Team. “When you see the situation, I think that today a team like Marc VDS is at a better level than some of the existing MotoGP™ teams. So, I think it is normal interest for manufacturers or other people to want to be together with the Marc VDS Racing Team. Also, if we make the step, we want to make it in a proper way.

“We have shown after four years of being in Moto2™ that we are competitive and have become one of the main teams in the paddock. We had to work hard to get where we are because many people have been here for a long time. The day we move to MotoGP™, it should be the same. We want to be successful, we want to have the best results and for this we need to have a nice package.

“I hope that one day – even if it is not this year, but next year – that one of the manufacturers can offer us a nice package and we can say that we are happy to work with them and make results with them together. We will see over the next days or weeks in which direction we will go.”

Marc VDS’ busy schedule continued on Tuesday, as both Tito Rabat and Mika Kallio were testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya just two days after Sunday’s race.
