Having recovered from a heavy crash in France which left him hopitalised since 28th February, Spanish rider Alex Mariñelarena is finally heading home.

The Tech3 Moto2 rider was seriously injured in a Paul Ricard circuit training accident last month and was initially placed in an induced coma by medics at the Hospital Saint-Anne in Toulon. He remained there until recently but has now travelled back to Pamplona in his native Spain.

From the Qatar paddock Tech3 boss Hervé Poncharal, gave an update on the rider’s situation, stating, “It’s great news that he is now going home to Spain. He was in the hospital in France for a long period and even though some of his family was there it is not the same as being in your own country with people speaking your own language around you. His state has improved and he is now getting back to normal.”

“He had an operation on his shoulder and now the plan is for him to stay in hospital in Pamplona for a few days. He has to have tests with the Spanish doctors, to understand the situation now and to get out of hospital, that is his next step. Then he can begin rehab. The thing he wants most is to be back with us in the paddock and to ride a Moto2 bike again.”
