Marcel Schrotter believes another points finish is possible at his home Grand Prix this weekend, as the Tech 3 Moto2™ rider looks to score for the seventh time this season. Despite this, he is fully aware of the challenge in front of both himself and the team.

Schrotter heads to the Sachsenring joint 12th in the championship with compatriot Sandro Cortese, with the pair of Germans just a single point in arrears of Sam Lowes. To date, Schrotter’s best results of the season have come in the form of ninth places in Texas and Barcelona.

"This bike is completely different to the one I rode last year," Schrotter tells motogp.com, ahead of competing in his ninth race with the Tech 3 Mistral 610 bike as opposed to the Kalex he rode in 2013. "We’ve got problems in turning - the bike reacts a bit sluggishly there.

"We also have problems at the apex and going in to the corners; it is all a bit too slow and takes too much time, also under acceleration. Those are the main problems. We are fighting low levels of grip as well. If we head in one direction, we would lose out in another. It’s hard to get the bike right, but I’d say turning and braking stability are our main issues."

Despite the troubles so far, both Schrotter and team-mate Ricky Cardus continue to put in respectable performances. The 21-year-old from Landsberg now reckons more points could come this weekend, but knows he will have to fight hard in order to score.

"Of course I know the track well and will have a bit of an extra motivation," he begins to sum up. "I am really looking forward to the Sachsenring. However, at the moment it’s anything but plain sailing, so I would say it won’t be possible to get that extra bit out of it from motivation alone. We are lacking too much at the moment. Having said that, my experience on that track will definitely help. I just have to give it my all."

Schrotter’s Sachsenring challenge will begin with Free Practice 1 on Friday morning.
