Redding: ‘Racing in MotoGP is the dream of every rider’

Wednesday, 19 March 2014

A huge weekend awaits Scott Redding as he looks forward to his premier class debut at the Commercial Bank Grand Prix of Qatar.

The 21-year-old Briton’s first premier class outing will also mark his 100th Grand Prix appearance, when he lines up on the grid for his new team GO&FUN Honda Gresini.

Redding has made steady progress during winter testing, improving his lap times repeatedly as his confidence in the new ‘Open’ entry Honda RCV1000R increases day by day.

“Racing in MotoGP is the dream of every rider,” Redding states ahead of his debut. “So Sunday in Qatar promises to be very special indeed. When I line up on the grid for the first time I expect to feel a little nervous, but I’m also curious to see what we can do at the start of this new adventure.”

On his expectations for the early part of the season he adds, “Our goal right now is to finish as the top Honda in the Open category, which means trying to beat Nicky Hayden - not an easy task given the difference in experience between the two of us.”

“I still have many things to learn about the tyres, the electronics and actually racing a MotoGP bike over 22 laps. I like the Losail circuit and I enjoy racing at night, it’s a pretty unique experience. It’s also cool to know that my very first MotoGP race will also be my 100th Grand Prix appearance. I couldn’t have planned that any better if I’d tried.”
