Strong start to round 11 for Repsol Honda

Friday, 15 August 2014

Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa of the Repsol Honda team were both within the top three at the bwin Grand Prix České republiky on Friday, despite a rain struck second session.

The factory Honda pair came to Brno with a strong base set up having completed a test here during the summer break. Marquez was immediately strong, putting in a 1’56.803 to top Free Practice 1.

Teammate Pedrosa was just 0.052s behind the reigning MotoGP™ World Champion, but down in third. Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) split the pair on combined times. There was just one second difference between the top ten riders in the tight FP1 session.

Free Practice 2 saw the rain come almost immediately, Andrea Iannone (Pramac Ducati) and Hector Barbera (Avintia Racing) were the only riders able to set dry times. Marquez and Pedrosa led the wet lap times, just 0.002s dividing them.

Marquez commented, “I am happy with how the practices went today as the track has changed substantially compared with how it was when we tested here. I expected this, and we adapted our setup accordingly in the sessions - although I am still not entirely satisfied. “

“In the afternoon when the track was wet - especially at the start of FP2 - I was able to lap consistently and I felt good which is important. We will see what the weather is like tomorrow and if we can have a good qualifying session,” he added.

Pedrosa added, “Today went well for us. We had one practice in the dry and the other in wet conditions, and I think that overall we need more dry track time in order to be able to test out different tyres and setups. It's been a good day and we can't wait to get back to work tomorrow.”
