Vazquez and Miller give views on battle

After a hectic last lap of the Moto3™ race at Le Mans which saw a group of eight riders in podium contention and produced a heated duel between Jack Miller and Efren Vazquez, both of those riders gave their opinions on the breathtaking racing.

Having qualified on pole at the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France Vazquez was hopeful of a first ever GP victory, but it was not to be for the experienced Spaniard.

Indeed, 27 year-old Vazquez got away from pole for the first time in his championship career in what was his 111th Grand Prix start and contested the race lead before a mistake saw him drop behind the leading pack midway through.

The SAXOPRINT RTG man then fought back superbly and was in contention to add to his seven career podiums before he came out on the losing side of a battle with eventual Moto3™ race winner and championship rival Miller. As the two jostled for positions Miller overtook Vazquez firmly in the closing stages with the latter forced to brake hard and losing several positions, to ultimately cross the line sixth.

Explaining things from his perspective Vazquez stated, “Jack was coming back, he overtook me on the chicane but he went wide and lost a lot of speed, so I didn’t want to pass him but he lost the position. When I went in he closed the line completely and if I hadn’t braked I would have crashed or maybe both of us would have crashed. Then we would have lost important championship points. Let’s see what happens but I expect someone to say something about this because it is too risky for the other riders.”

Standings leader and race victor Miller, meanwhile, gave his view on the battle, commenting, “I did to Efren what he did to me half way through the race when he closed the door and I had to go wide, then a lot of riders came through. So I’m not so worried about that. There was no contact and if there was any contact it was coming from him, he tried to pass directly. He could have waited until the last corner or something like that.”
