First day with Suzuki for Espargaro and Viñales

First day with Suzuki for Espargaro and Viñales

Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Viñales were both pleased with their findings having ridden the Suzuki GSX-RR for the first time on Monday.

Commencing a new chapter at the Valencia post-season test both Spanish riders know there is plenty of work ahead for them and the Japanese engineers working on Suzuki’s return to MotoGP in 2015, but they are motivated for the challenge in front of them.

Espargaro registered a solid best lap of 1’32.315 to end up 14th on the Monday test timesheet. Reflecting on the day’s work he said, “Really happy. I was a bit nervous at the beginning but I enjoyed riding. The bike was a bit better than what I expected, the frame is fantastic and the bike is turning really, really well. Also the electronics work better than the Open one. We know that we need a lot more power though, as the top speed is really low. But even like that we’re not too far from the top guys, 1.3 seconds is ok because we are 20km/h down in terms of speed. We have a lot of work in front of us, but we are ready.”

Espargaro’s new colleague Viñales was less than a second behind him and commented on his first contact with the Suzuki MotoGP bike, “I think the bike is really good, because you know it’s just the first day. I feel really good on the bike and I’m very happy. Tomorrow we can adjust the traction control up and make a good lap. The difference from Moto2 is in the acceleration, corner by corner it’s much faster, so I need to improve there.”
