Jonas Folger celebrated his first victory in the highly competitive Moto2™ class at the Losail International Circuit.
It couldn’t have been a better start to the season for the AGR Team rider as he took the win after Sam Lowes crashed and Johann Zarco had gearbox issues, finishing 5 seconds ahead of Xavier Simeon in 2nd.
“I’m so happy about this victory, it’s hard to explain this awesome feeling because I didn’t expect to win today. It was a really long race for me, particularly the last laps riding at the front of the field. I must say that I had a good start and all went well through the first corners as I didn’t have any troubles with other riders. So I was able to build up my rhythm from the first lap and I was strong in overtaking. But I couldn’t follow Sam and Johann so I just tried to continue my rhythm and open a gap. Consistency was our strength today but also the whole package was working well throughout the race. Of course tyre wear was a key point but I was able to manage it quite well. For the most of the race it was a lonesome ride lap by lap but when I saw Johann along the straight I was a bit scarred because he had a big moment there and of course I was bit nervous taking the lead. At this time there were still seven laps to go which were really long for me. Finally everything went well and I’m really happy for my team and my crew because they all did an awesome job during all weekend. But I’m already looking forward to the next race in Austin, I would like to go there immediately because our motivation is so high after this victory and of course we want to keep this momentum. Finally I also want to thank my team and all the sponsors for their outstanding support.“
