Di Giannantonio: “A podium at Misano is super special”

Italian back on the rostrum in front of the home crowd

Fabio Di Giannantonio (Del Conca Gresini Moto3) had great pace all weekend at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in the dry, and the Italian continued to impress even as the weather changed for race day and the rain came down. Up in the fight at the front before making a mistake, ‘Diggia’ pushed on and clawed himself back into podium contention – dueling Aron Canet (Estrella Galicia 0,0) briefly before pulling away for a safe and well-earned P3.

Fabio Di Giannantonio, P3: “I think today is a really special day. We got a great result and a podium here in Misano, in Italy, is super special. But third position in the rain is really good, because in Brno I did another good race and I was a bit worried about this. At the beginning of the race I was there but I made a little mistake and then I started to be focused. The track was difficult but I said ‘No! Today, podium.’ We did it! Canet over took me once and I saw he was a bit on the limit so I started to push, I overtook him and then pushed a bit more…then I saw on the screen that he crashed and I almost started to cry because I realised I would be third. Awesome and unbelievable, I stopped the bike and went to the people and they were all screaming…beautiful!”

Did you know: Valentino Rossi isn't the only Italian on the grid with a super cool cat...
