Redding Interview: “We are definitely making progress”

Redding Interview: “We are definitely making progress”

Scott Redding chatted exclusively to motogp.com about how he is adapting to the Honda RC213V at the recent test in Barcelona.

Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS’s Redding equalled his career best MotoGP™ finish at the Catalan GP, crossing the line in seventh. He is currently thirteenth in the MotoGP™ World Championship standings with 27 points after seven races:

How useful was the test?
I wouldn’t say useful, we went out and did some dry laps, tried some stuff on the bike. Then it started raining, so we went out in the wet to keep the feeling for the rain. Then when it was greasy, we went out again to get the feeling in those conditions, and it wasn’t too bad. Not the best test, but it was better than nothing!

You equalled your career best result here in the race (seventh), are you getting to grips with the RC213V finally?
“Its been very difficult, it takes a lot of time, and time is not some thing you have in this paddock. We are doing our best to get there as quick as we can, but it is not something that happens overnight.

We were only 16 seconds from Dani Pedrosa in this race.  At the beginning of the year, we were 28 seconds behind the leading Honda. We are definitely making progress, but it is not easy.”

What exactly is it you are struggling with?
“Its all little things. You struggle to get out of the corner so you push harder into the corner, which gives you a problem with the front. It’s a bit of a vicious circle, and you have just have to try and balance out all the small things.

For someone like me, who last year had a grippy rear tyre and less power, to go to something with more power and less grip is quite annoying. It just needs time, and we are getting there slowly…”

Assen up next, is it a circuit you like?
“Yeah I do! Its fast, flowing, I think it will be good to see what we can do there. It’s quite a technical circuit in its own way, it just depends on what the weather is doing!

Before I get there, I will do some training, a bit of motocross, and I’ll also get out on the road bike. I’ll be heading there in the camper-van, to make it into a bit of a road trip.”
