Kallio: “I still don’t think we’re at the maximum”

Kallio: “I still don’t think we’re at the maximum”

Front end problems have plagued Mika Kallio for much of the year, but at the Sachsenring he appears to have overcome them.

The Sachsenring is one of Kallio’s best tracks; he has frequently been able to fight for wins here, claiming second in 2014 and 2012. Despite being a title contender last season, 2015 has been a tough year for the Finnish rider. He and his new Italtrans Racing Team have struggled to find a good feeling in the front end of the bike, a run of poor results sapping Kallio of his confidence.

A 1’25.069 saw Kallio end a red flagged FP2 session on top, the time leaving him third overall on the combined sheets. Rebuilding confidence is the main aim for Kallio this weekend in order to set up a strong finish to the year.

Mika Kallio: “Finally we were top of the time sheets so not too bad! We were working really hard in these last few weeks to find a solution to our problem which was basically we have no feeling with the front tyre. It has been a complicated season for us and that’s why it’s nice to be back on the top for us, let’s see what we can do tomorrow. I still don’t think we’re at the maximum and I hope to take a step to get even more ahead. The other riders will start improving and we need to step ahead with them, this is always the best track for me. It’s good to start strong like this. I think everyone knows this is an important GP for us after the start of the season. We’ve been trying all season to find solutions and found nothing, it’s tough mentally but now I feel not too bad but we still need to improve our confidence.”
