Hernandez: “The credit goes to the team”

Hernandez: “The credit goes to the team”

It was the rider who will line up fifth, Yonny Hernandez, who produced perhaps the biggest surprise of Saturday.

Qualifying for the GoPro Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland saw Yonny Hernandez (Octo Pramac Racing) equal his best ever MotoGP™ grid position, again securing fifth. 2015 has proven Hernandez to be a major threat to any of the factory riders who find themselves in Q1, the Columbian frequently ruining their plans to save tyres by missing parts of the session. An uncompetitive time in FP3 saw Hernandez advance through Q1 once more.

Hernandez and his Pramac team worked effectively in FP4 to improve the bike, setting the sixth fastest time of the session. These improvements aided Hernandez tremendously, he went on to set a 1’21.115s and improve his time from Q1 by several tenths. Qatar also saw Hernandez start fifth and there he was able to follow the leading pack for several laps, something he’ll be aiming to repeat on Sunday.

Yonny Hernandez: “I am very happy with this result. On this circuit I always manage to express myself better. The credit goes to the team that has obviously worked very well. We quickly found a good setting and then choose a map in which I found great confidence. I hope tomorrow we can do a good race to get important points for the championship. In Qatar I was able to stay for a lot of laps in the lead group. It's a very important opportunity because lapping with the guys in front let you always learn a lot. I hope to learn a lot tomorrow and be able to defend my position.”
