Kent stamps authority on Moto3™ FP3

Kent stamps authority on Moto3™ FP3

Moto3™ Championship leader Danny Kent sets the fastest time of the weekend to end FP3 almost half a second ahead of the rest of the field.

Leopard Racing’s Kent ended Friday’s practice in third overall, but wasted no time this morning in getting a good rhythm and towards the end of FP3 he showed his true pace to top the session in almost perfect conditions at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The man who has a 66-point lead in the standings set a 1’40.870, just under a tenth of a second of the pole record set by Jack Miller last season (1’40.727).

Kent was a class above the rest of the field, and only Jorge Navarro (+0.448s) on the Estrella Galicia 0,0 Honda could get within half a second of the Brit. Ongetta-Rivacold’s Niccolo Antonelli (+0.576s) was third fastest with the man who topped the combined timesheets on Friday, Kent’s teammate Efren Vazquez (+0.740s), in fourth.

Schedl GP Racing’s Phillip Oettl (+0.742s) improved from 20th overnight to end the session in fifth ahead of Jorge Martin (+0.755s) on the Mapfre Team Mahindra in sixth.

Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Ajo), Fabio Quartararo (Estrella Galicia 0,0), Enea Bastianini (Gresini Racing Team Moto3) and Zulfahmi Khairuddin (Drive M7 SIC) completed the top ten.

Scottish rider John McPhee was as high as eighth at one point in the session but finished down in 20th, while new boy Lorenzo Dalla Porta on the Husqvarna Factory Laglisse was down in 29th, behind the man he replaced Isaac Viñales (filling in for the injured Ana Carrasco) on the RBA Racing KTM in 13th.

Romano Fenati (15th) crashed for the third time this weekend, this time at turn 2, while Karel Hanika had a nasty look off exiting turn 16 onto the start finish straight right at the end of the session.
