Record-breaking Rins fastest in Moto2™ FP3

Record-breaking Rins fastest in Moto2™ FP3

Alex Rins sets the fastest ever Moto2™lap around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to top FP3.

Paginas Amarillas HP40’s Rins continued the form that saw him top FP1 to end FP3 on top of the timesheets, beating Mika Kallio’s pole record (1’36.883) from last season in the process. Conditions were ideal for what turned out to be a hotly contested session, with track temperatures hitting 37 degrees and bright sunshine bathing the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as less than a second separated the top 16 riders.

Italtrans Racing Team’s Franco Morbidelli (+00.17s) had to settle for second after being displaced at the top by Rins in the dying seconds of the session. Tito Rabat on the Estrella Galicia 0,0 Kalex finished third fastest with just 0.43s separating the top three.

Speed Up Racing’s Sam Lowes was almost half a second further back (+0.541s) in fourth as he continues to recover from flu-like symptoms, ahead of Jonas Folger (+0.599s) on the AGR Team Kalex in fifth.

Derendinger Racing Interwetten’s Thomas Luthi (+0617s) completed the provisional second row in sixth with the impressive Hafizh Syahrin (Petronas Raceline Malaysia) maintaining his pace from yesterday to end up seventh fastest.

Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia), Mika Kallio (Italtrans Racing Team) and current championship leader Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport), who suffered from a technical fault early on in the session, completed the top ten.

Check out the full results from Moto2™ FP3, Qualifying is due to start at 15:05 local time in Indianapolis.
