Redding: “I was behind Marc Marquez both times”

Britain’s Scott Redding secures seventh on the grid for his home race, the Octo British Grand Prix.

A trip behind Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) proved to be a revealing excursion for the Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS Racing’s Scott Redding. Even pushing to his absolute limit, the British rider was still a second slower than the double MotoGP™ World Champion, but it did aid Redding in moving up the grid. Overall the British GP has been a positive weekend for Redding with frequent visits to the top ten in practice. A 2’01.329 sees him start at the head of the third row and as the second highest placed Brit.

Car racing at Silverstone has left the circuit with many bumps, especially on corner entry, and many MotoGP™ riders have struggled with front-end setup over the weekend. A fix on Friday saw Redding head into Saturday full of confidence, able to produce one of his best results of the year. Tyre wear is a concern for Redding over race distance and he and his team are eager to experiment with telemetry changes in Warm Up.

Scott Redding: “I felt pretty good and the qualifying was really interesting. I was behind Marc Marquez both times and it was quite a nice thing to have. I've not really been worried about following anyone this weekend but in qualifying to have someone so fast in front of me was very interesting indeed. Following Marc is unreal because you're completely on the limit and he's still one second faster! Our race pace isn't too bad but our tyre wear isn't too good. We'll try something in the morning to help that but generally I feel quite comfortable and I'm enjoying this weekend."
